What is BPA?

BPA or bisphenol-A is a chemical used to make plastics. It has been around since the 1960s. While the research is still ongoing the fact that there is some concern is raising eyebrows. To be clear, neither the EPA nor FDA has definitive data showing that BPA is harmful. They do make a recommendation to keep infants and young children away from bottles and cans that contain it.

If you answered, the refrigerator, you're right!!

So why then do some companies sell you on disinfection in the REFRIGERATED part of your water cooler while leaving the most contaminated part of the water cooler (the spigots) totally unprotected? Doesn't it seem foolish to waste time, energy and money to sanitize water in a refrigerated reservoir only to have it pick up a heavy dose of #bacteria waiting at the tip of a contaminated spigot.

Answer: There is ONLY ONE automatic water cooler spigot sanitizer and they don't have one!

Poking around on the internet you can find the darndest things…a 2006 bulletin from an Insurance Company to its’ Golf Course Clients.

I can picture it now; you’re all dressed up in plaid and ready to have some fun with a friend chasing your balls into the woods. Grand Canyon to Ban Bottled Water Sales

The National Park Service has approved a plan to eliminate the sales of bottled water inside the park within the next 30 days. Similar bans are already in effect at Zion National Park (Utah) and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

With the intent to reduce 20% of the park’s waste as well as degradation of the landscape, $290,000 was spent installing 10 “water stations” inside the park and park concessionaires chipped in with an additional 3 stations. Park concessionaires can still sell other bottled beverages and outside bottles can be brought in and re-filled using the water stations.

This ban was proposed in late 2010 but was delayed. The Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility charged Coca-Cola Co. applied pressure to postpone the ban. The National Park Service denied the claim.

What You Never Think of Can Hurt You…

I think a lot of us strive to live a little “greener” these days. Whether it’s turning off lights when not in a room or not letting the water run continuously while we brush our teeth. Another very small thing to do is to use reusable shopping bags for our groceries. What a great idea, it gets lots and lots of those disposable plastic bags off the streets (literally too!). One dirty little secret is that those reusable bags can get awfully dirty….with bacteria.
