Nominal vs ABSOLUTE Filter Rating
Friday, December 30, 2011
What is the least common term you’ll hear used by filter manufacturers? The word is “ABSOLUTE”!
The most common word you’ll hear is Nominal.
The attached link to the EPA tutorial explains the difference and it is like night and day.
Pure1 manufactures a 0.5 micron ABSOLUTE water filter, which, once you read the attached message from the EPA, will give you great comfort in knowing you have selected the very best available; Pure1.

Eliminate Chlorine with a Home Filtration System
Friday, December 23, 2011
Clean water is a major concern in many parts of the world. If you are worried about the purity of the water coming out of your tap, invest in a quality under sink water filter. This type of device filters only the water you drink. Best of all, once it's installed, you don't have to deal with filtering water pitchers anymore and the capacity is much, much higher.
A home filtration system gives you peace of mind for you and your family. The system can also filter the water in your ice machine so that you have clean ice. It's harder to tell if your water has ingredients like heavy metals or excessive particulates compared to excessive Chlorine. In addition to Chlorine, a sub-micron filter gets rid of 99.9 percent of unwanted particles in the water (that are 0.5 micron and larger).
Generally, you should change your water filtration system's filter every six months. You can easily keep track of this by enrolling in the Safe Water Club, which automatically delivers a new filter biannually. You will actually save money by having the filters delivered!

Ground Water Testing for Homes
Friday, December 16, 2011
If you are considering buying a newly constructed home, there are going to be quite a few decisions you will have to make both before the construction crew breaks ground and while they are building. Many people love the idea of having everything to their exact measurements and love that all the choices are theirs to make.
While it really can be a fun opportunity to get exactly what you want for your home before moving in, there is, however, something that many people don’t get to choose before they move in… that is the air and water quality of their home.
Builders and realtors are not necessarily required to test for radon when they are building or selling a home. So, it is your job as a buyer to make sure the realtor and builder understand that if the inspection shows unsafe levels of radon in the air or the water that it will be expected of them to put in both a radon air mitigation system and a whole house water filtration system.
You wouldn’t move into a home if the roof was unsafe or there were termite nests discovered, so why would you move in if the air and water quality of the home was sub-par. Safe air and water should be part of the overall safety of the home and should not be something you have to add after moving day whether the home is new or not.

Water Filtration Outdoors
Friday, December 09, 2011
Going camping can be a lot of fun, or it can be a nightmare. If you are not properly prepared for the weather conditions and the environment in which you will be spending the duration of your trip, camping trips can feel incredibly long and uncomfortable. One of the difficulties many campers face is what to do about their water supply, especially if their trip is going to be an extended one in areas where the available water is not going to be funneled through a water filtration system, or undersink water filter like those required in most homes today.
In order to have access to safe drinking water, outdoor enthusiasts have a number of options. They can boil the water, which will kill bacteria, but not remove particles or chemical contamination; chemically treat the water, which again, will kill bacteria, but does not have an effect on particles and requires a time delay; or they can use a filtration system such as a bottle filter or a dedicated filter. A combination of the above methods works best. At any rate, if you are feeling uncertain, you can always take a walk around your neighborhood and then come back and enjoy your home filtration system.

American Society for Microbiology: Giardia and Cryptosporidium Study
Friday, December 02, 2011
Although a bit dated, a report from Applied and Environmental Microbiology pertaining to Giardia and Cryptosporidium in filtered drinking water is still very relevant to your health. Giardia and Cryptosporidium are parasites that exist in rivers and lakes and cause intestinal illnesses in humans and animals. In May 1993, an epidemic of intestinal illnesses occurred in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. It was discovered that these illnesses were caused by Cryptosporidium and, since then, nationwide attention has been brought to cryptosporidium and giardia in water supplies. These parasites are very difficult to get rid of, especially for animals whose main sources of water are rivers and lakes.
The report details how Giardia cysts were detected in 17% of filtered drinking water samples taken from 66 surface water treatment plants in the U.S. and Canada and Cryptosporidium in 27%. Since it’s difficult to assure that your tap water is coming from a treatment plant that is in full compliance with the Surface Water Treatment Rule (SWTR), which was enacted primarily as a means of controlling waterborn diseases caused by parasites, then your best bet is to go with a water filter that can eliminate these parasites.

Key to a Healthy Diet: Drink Water!
Friday, December 02, 2011
Drinking water has a lot to do with loosing weight. Not only will it keep your body fully hydrated during the day, replenishing any lost moisture, it is also a natural appetite suppressant and can help burn the calories you have already consumed.
If you have an under sink water filter or a home filtration system, you know you are giving your body the healthiest, purest water you can and this fits in perfectly with your new healthier lifestyle. It is recommended that you consume ½ an ounce of filtered water for every pound that you weigh. How much you consume also depends on the amount of exercise you do each day, where you live and how much you weigh. If you live in a warmer climate, you will need to replenish more liquid that is lost on any given day.
Drinking filtered water keeps the body from becoming dehydrated. If the body is fully hydrated, the water will aid in the burning of calories. Dehydration can slow down the fat-burning progress. Drinking a lot of water will also help flush toxins out of your body. As you create a healthier body and begin eating healthier foods, you will want to rid yourself of the effects of your previous bad eating habits as soon as possible. Water will help.
Keeping fully hydrated helps you maintain your muscle tone as it facilitates the muscle contractions and lubricates your joints. This helps diminish soreness allowing you to feel more comfortable while you exercise. This will ultimately allow you to exercise more often.
Drinking water with your meals will also help you feel fuller faster. As a result, you should eat less food at each meal. You still want to be receiving proper nutrition and the correct number of calories so it may be important to speak with a nutritionist on exactly how many calories you should be eating and what kinds of foods you need to eat each day.
