Use Refrigerator Water/Ice Filters

Monday, October 30, 2017

“Drinking water is like washing out your insides. The water will cleanse the system, fill you up, decrease your caloric load and improve the function of all your tissues.” Kevin R. Stone

It seems like unhealthy tap water makes headlines every few months. In Flint, Michigan, the city's municipal water supply was found to contain large amounts of lead and E. coli, causing significant health issues and 10 deaths. Scientists are currently researching a possible link between fluoride and thyroid disease. And a recent article discussing neti pot safety stated that tap water was, "safe," to drink, though it typically contained small amounts of protozoa, bacteria and microorganisms like amoebas. The article went on to state that stomach acid kills these bacteria. However, neti pot users didn't all understand the importance of using a saline nasal rinse for their neti pots. Since their noses couldn't kill these common bacteria found in tap water, the neti pot users were endangering their health.

Just How Safe is Tap Water?

The safety of your tap water depends on your municipal area and its regulation or whether you draw your own water from a well.

If you use municipal tap water, that water is regulated by the Safe Drinking Water Act passed in 1974. This act mandates that municipal water is:

Filtered,
Treated with disinfectants and chlorine to kill bacteria, and
Tested constantly for dangerous substances

However, as you can see by what happened in Flint, Michigan, major issues can still get past these safeguards.

If you use well water, there are even more safety concerns for you to consider. At a minimum, you have to test it every year for bacteria. If it smells, looks or tastes different one day, you must test it immediately for safety. You also have to test it for nitrates and lead which are contaminants that are dangerous to everyone. However, they're especially dangerous to expectant mothers, infants, children and the elderly.

In essence, there are so many reasons to make today the day you make a water change for your family. A new refrigerator water/ice filter can put your mind at ease. Healthy water is essential to a healthy life. There's no need to take the risk. Contact us at Pure1 today!
